7 Baby Steps to Financial Freedom

01

Baby Step 1: Save $1000 - The first step recommended by Dave Ramsey is to start a $1000 emergency fund for those unexpected life events you can't plan for.

02

Baby Step 2: Pay Off Debt - The second step is to come to terms with what debt you actually have. In order to do this, we have to break out our credit report and bills except for your mortgage (if you have one) and list them in order from smallest to largest balance. At this point, your smallest balance should be your number one priority.

03

Baby Step 3: Emergency Fund - Now it is time to build on our existing emergency fund. The worst life events can happen to anyone at anytime, so in order to be somewhat secure, it is best that there is 3-6 months of emergency savings. In order to figure out what this number is, we need to look closely at our monthly bills and times that by 3-6.

04

Baby Step 4: Invest 15% - Have you though about retirement? If not, now is the time to get serious about it. With no debt payments and your emergency fund fully funded, it islets to put away 15% of your income to the retirement of your dreams.

05

Baby Step 5: Save for College - College and housing expenses continue to rise year after year. Have you thought about yours or your child's education? Don't let it sneak up on you. Save now so that when the kids graduate from high school, college is already funded.

06

Baby Step 6: Pay Off Your Home - The most exciting of the Baby Steps is paying off the Mortgage. Think of all the things you can do when you don't have a mortgage to pay.

07

Baby Step 7: Build Wealth & Give - This is the last step, the step you have worked so hard for. It is time to have some fun by living (not just existing) and giving. Build wealth, be generous with your giving and leave an inheritance for future generations.

2018 will be the year where you stop living paycheck to paycheck and start winning with money.
